For Parents of Teens with Acne

Acne can be upsetting for a teenager, but you can help your teen to feel better. Here are some useful suggestions:

Talk and listen
Encourage your child to tell you how they feel about their acne. If you had acne as a teen, share your own experiences. Listen to your child’s response.

Find a solution
Explain to your teen that there are treatments that can improve almost any case of acne. Ask if he or she is interested in seeing a healthcare professional.

Encourage your teen
Once your child is receiving therapy, remind him or her to follow the treatment regimen that their healthcare professional has recommended.

Only one in two teens who use acne medication follow treatment instructions as directed.
Parents assume that their teens have more knowledge about taking care of their skin than they actually do.
